Oda Starheim

Oda Starheim is a Norwegian-born, Berlin-based artist working across extended voice, raw performance and live electronics. Singing at the edge of the voice, in and out of bodies, in and out of cavities, her practice centres on voice – its fragilities and boundaries. A voice that never settles but multiplies, dissolves, mutates, alienates and distorts.

She holds a master’s degree in Sound Studies and Sonic Arts from Universität der Künste Berlin, with mentors including Brandon LaBelle and Annette Krebs, and has received extensive training with voice artist Ute Wassermann.

Starheim is also one half of the music duo Soft as Snow, with full-length releases on Portland label Beacon Sound, Houndstooth and Infinite Machine, as well as a series of noise-driven improvisation-based works on progressive tape labels. Together they have toured extensively, performing in clubs, festivals and art galleries across Europe and the USA.
